Van Buren Trial Watch

Highlights of the weapons trial of Leodes Van Buren, former Newbury Park High All-American football player, on Thursday:

* A Ventura County jury took fewer than three hours to convict Van Buren of firing a gun into the Newbury Park home of his girlfriend.

* Van Buren, the state’s all-time leading pass receiver who was headed to the University of Colorado on a football scholarship before the shooting, now could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

* Acting Superior Court Judge Bruce A. Clark set sentencing for Aug. 25.
