Seminar to Address New Pesticide Rules

Growers are invited to attend a free seminar that will bring them up-to- date on new federal regulations dealing with pesticide use and worker safety.
The seminar is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 18 in the lower plaza assembly auditorium at the Ventura County Government Center in Ventura.
The talk will help farmers, nursery growers and greenhouse owners sort through regulations that became law in January, said horticulturist Julie Newman, an adviser in the Ventura office of the UC Cooperative Extension, a forum sponsor.
People who harvest, for example, must undergo safety training, as well as those who spray pesticides, she said. And workers will have to wait longer to enter a field after it has been sprayed with pesticide, she said.
Registration for the seminar begins at 8 a.m. on Aug. 18. The forum is expected to run for about two hours, Newman said. For more information, call Newman at 645-1459.
