Grape Farmers Sue San Francisco: The California Table Grape Commission says the city and county acted unlawfully when they discontinued selling California table grapes at Giants baseball games. In June, the Giants agreed to promote grapes during home games in exchange for a sponsorship fee. In July, at the direction of the city and county government, which owns Candlestick Park, grapes were pulled from the concession stands and the sponsorship agreement was terminated. The commission says the city’s actions are based on a resolution passed in 1988 in support of the United Farm Workers boycott of California table grapes. The California Agricultural Relations Board has ruled that the UFW’s secondary boycott is illegal.
