Recording Industry Posts Double-Digit Growth: The industry posted an 11.9% increase in manufacturers’ shipments to retail outlets for the first six months of this year, according to the Recording Industry Assn. of America. Manufacturer shipments totaled $4.8 billion, compared to $4.2 billion for the same period a year ago. Unit shipments--compact discs, cassettes and LPs--increased 13.8% to 425.9 million, or a total of $4.5 billion.
