GARDEN GROVE — A single-family home sustained an estimated $150,000 in damage Wednesday when fire gutted much of the first floor.
A spokeswoman for the Garden Grove Fire Department said a girl was inside the Aspenwood Lane home when the fire broke out about 12:15 p.m. but escaped without injury. The girl was not identified, but the spokeswoman, Ellen Covey, said she was a minor.
The family’s pet dog was killed in the blaze.
Firefighters said the blaze appears to have begun in the kitchen, where food was found on the stove.
Flames spread through the first floor and up to the roof, Covey said. It took 27 firefighters about 15 minutes to contain the blaze.
