Planning Award: Whether the $3-billion Disneyland Resort expansion project goes ahead or not, the planning effort for the project has not gone unnoticed.
Anaheim’s planning department has won an award from the Orange County section of the American Planning Assn. for its effort to lay out a grand future vision of the decayed urban landscape surrounding present-day Disneyland.
“The project presents a classic, textbook case of utilizing the landscape and street-scape,” the awards panel noted. “The plan is the highest quality in every respect. It sets the standard.”
Planning Director Joel Fick, who accepted the award, said, “This award validates our effort to create a world-class resort in the heart of our city.”
