Women in Jail Ask for Equal Rights

Why, in this day of equal rights with discrimination being such an issue, can a government agency such as the county of Orange deny women the same rights as men?
This is the question being asked by our 100 female inmates at Orange County’s James A. Musick Branch Jail in Irvine that the commander chose not to even answer when asked formally, in writing on a county request form.
The question arose because men are continually given early releases of 10% of their sentence, and the same credit is not given to the women at the same facility. This is only one of many of the women’s rights that have been infringed upon.
When the same question was asked informally of other employees, the answer was given that the men’s side is more crowded and the bed space is needed for incoming prisoners. Are the men being rewarded for committing more crimes, or are the women being punished for not doing as many crimes as the men?
