‘Queen’ for a Season

I was glad to see a question about George Nader in Sunday’s TV Times (Aug. 21). I always felt he was underrated, but I must take exception to your statement, “Nader was the first ‘Ellery Queen’ in 1958.” I am old enough to remember “Ellery Queen” with Lee Bowman (his best part, in my opinion) coming on live television as a summer replacement and later becoming a regular TV series.
John McCarthy, Culver City
Editor’s Note: George Nader, in fact, played the third network “Ellery Queen” and the fourth overall. Richard Hart was first (Dumont, 1950-51); Lee Bowman, second (ABC, 1951-52); Hugh Marlowe, third (Syndicated, 1954); Nader, fourth (NBC, 1958-59); Lee Philips, fifth (NBC, 1959); and Jim Hutton, sixth (NBC, 1975-76).
