PREP ROUNDUP : Ploog’s 8 Goals Lead La Habra in Water Polo

La Habra’s Dan Ploog scored eight goals to lead his team to an 11-3 victory over Katella in an opening-round games of the Bell Gardens water polo tournament Thursday.
La Habra scored all of its goals in the first half.
In an earlier game, Ploog scored four in a 22-2 victory over La Verne Damien. Dave Ploog also scored four goals in that game.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Bolsa Grande 14 1/3, Loara 6 2/3--Linhthuy Dihn and Linda Cao swept at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-3, 6-0, for Bolsa Grande.
Mater Dei 18, Fountain Valley 0--The Monarchs lost only eleven games in their victory over Fountain Valley. Laura Ruben won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, and Sarah Jarrett swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 for Mater Dei (1-0).
Savanna 14, Connelly 4--Sisters Ly and Hanh Kim swept their singles sets for Savanna.
Western 18, Buena Park 0--Debbie Jethva swept in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and teammates Rie Sasaki and Susy Yoon won in doubles, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1.
Kennedy 16, La Habra 2--Junior Erin Kubota won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, for Kennedy.
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Bolsa Grande 3, Whittier California 2--Moira Wolfrum and Debbie Yau both had 11 kills each in the 6-15, 15-11, 12-15, 15-11, 15-2 victory.
Brea-Olinda 3, Walnut 0--Ann Marie Hatchel had six kills and Shannon Breazeale had five to help Brea-Olinda to a 15-12, 15-7, 15-5 victory.
El Modena 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Nicole Terry had 14 kills for El Modena, which defeated Trabuco Hills, 15-8, 15-5, 15-10.
Laguna Hills 3, Westminster 0--Misty Thompson had ten aces and 19 assists in the season opener for Laguna Hills. The Hawks won 15-4, 15-5, 15-6.
Orange 3, Katella 0--Charlene Conley had eight kills to lead Orange, in a 15-0, 15-5, 15-10 victory.
