HUNTINGTON BEACH : Budget Proposal Before City Would Eliminate 27 Jobs

The City Council is scheduled to eliminate 27 full-time permanent positions in a $190.2-million budget for the coming fiscal year up for adoption tonight. It is nearly $5 million less than the city’s financial plan for the past year.
A public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Civic Center, 2000 Main St.
Among new fees would be a charge of $20 for a non-resident library card, which would raise $200,000. Police Chief Ronald E. Lowenberg is also recommending a $10 parking fine increase that would raise about $390,000 in additional revenue.
Administrator Michael T. Uberuaga said the proposed $94-million general fund has a surplus of $297,532.
Eliminating seven Fire Department positions and changing the way the city delivers paramedic services will also be under consideration.
