Two events honoring former Willis Warner Middle School Principal Joan Read will be held this week, a school district spokeswoman said.
Read, 62, retired recently after almost 40 years with the Westminster School District, where she served as teacher and principal on several campuses, district spokeswoman Audrey Brown said.
During Read’s last year as principal at Warner, the school won a Golden Bell Award for its language arts program. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the California School Boards Assn., Brown said.
Warner will host an assembly at 12:15 p.m. today, which will be open to the public. Between 2 to 4 p.m., the school will host a community tea to honor Read in the school multipurpose room, Brown said.
On Friday, friends and community members will hold a $30-a-plate dinner in her honor. The dinner will be at Seacliff Country Club, 6501 Palm Ave., in Huntington Beach.
