Steinberg Loses in Third Round of Mid-Amateur

Craig Steinberg of Van Nuys advanced to the third round of match play Tuesday before losing in the 14th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Steinberg was edged, 1 up, in his afternoon match by Randy Haag of Danville, Calif. Steinberg defeated Buddy Alexander of Gainesville, Fla., 1 up, in the morning.
Don Baker of Canoga Park, who like Steinberg played at USC, was defeated in the morning, 4 and 3, by Allen Doyle of La Grange, Ga.
