Highland Earns First Win, 40-6

QUARTZ HILL — Jason Carr and Ladarral Hollingsworth carried the load offensively for Highland High and the Bulldogs rolled to an easy 40-6 victory Friday over Verdugo Hills in an intersectional game at Quartz Hill High.
Carr opened the scoring with a 55-yard reception on a halfback option from Hollingsworth on the third play of the game.
Carr completed 10 of 12 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns, and scored on runs of 24 and 22 yards in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 33-0 halftime lead.
To close out the Bulldogs’ 19-point first quarter, Hollingsworth scored on a 66-yard pass play and a 41-yard run. He finished with 102 yards rushing in seven carries.
The Bulldogs (1-2) scored on their first five possessions and limited the Dons (0-2-1) to 16 yards in the first half.
Verdugo Hills scored its only points on its first possession of the second half on a six-yard pass from David Kelly to Ryan Brouchet.
