GAO to Review Nasdaq Computer Operations: The General Accounting Office said it is reviewing the computer operations of the system, the nation’s second-largest stock market, after a series of power outages halted trading twice this summer. Rep. Edward J. Markey (D.-Mass.), chairman of the House subcommittee on telecommunications and finance, said the National Assn. of Securities Dealers’ own investigation of the outages traced the problems to computer hardware and power systems malfunctions. It also offered recommendations to prevent future problems.
