COMPTON : Protest Asks Faster Probe of Officer Accused of Assault

Latino activists urged Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti on Friday to quicken his investigation of a Compton police officer accused of assaulting a teen-ager in July.

“We’re here . . . to ask our district attorney to give us some kind of finding,” said Art Pulito of the Community Coalition for Justice. “It’s been almost three months and nothing has happened.”

Mike Botula, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said Garcetti isn’t stalling.

“These investigations do take time,” he said.

The protest outside the Downtown Criminal Courts Building came as a result of the July 29 incident in which 17-year-old Felipe Soltero was shown on a neighbor’s videotape being struck by Compton Police Officer Michael Jackson.

The officer was called to the scene that day to assist a social worker who was visiting the house, authorities said.
