Babe Herman, a 1920 graduate of Glendale High, batted .324, hit 181 home runs and drove in 997 runs in a 13-year major-league career for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers.
Herman led Glendale to its first Southern Section baseball final in 1920, but Glendale lost to San Diego High, 5-2.
