PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Bell’s Runs and Kicks Ring Up 38-20 Western Victory

ANAHEIM — Western High’s David Bell scored 20 points to pace Western to a 38-20 victory over Magnolia in Orange League play Friday night at Glover Stadium.
With Western trailing, 7-0, in the first quarter, Bell returned a kickoff 86 yards to tie the score. Later in the quarter, he broke through and blocked Tony Iliescu’s punt and returned it 23 yards for a score to give Western (6-0-1, 1-0-1) a 21-7 lead.
Bell kicked a 32-yard field goal with 10:35 left in the second quarter to give Western a 24-7 lead. He added five conversion kicks.
Justin Starkey gave Western its first lead when he caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Dean Chambers with 3:03 left in the first quarter.
Magnolia’s Ryan Heiman recovered a fumble by Chambers fumble and seven plays later, Robert Nicols passed 11 yards to Carlos Martin for the game’s first score.
Nicols was the only highlight for Magnolia (1-6, 0-2). The senior quarterback threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Eric Webber and returned a Western fumble 85 yards for a touchdown.
Nicols, however, was intercepted by Western’s Chris Ostergaard, who returned it 43 yards for a touchdown.
Matt Frembling scored the other touchdown for Western on a three-yard run in the third quarter. Frembling led Western in rushing with 41 yards in eight carries.
