Canyon Secures Playoff Berth

BURBANK — With third place in the Foothill League and a playoff berth on the line, visiting Canyon High rose to the occasion Friday and played an almost-flawless second half in a 27-12 victory over Burbank.
Junior quarterback Ahjeron Palmer completed seven of 14 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns and rushed eight times for 76 yards to lead the Cowboys (3-5-1, 2-2 in league play).
Senior tight end Tim Fitzgerald also played a key role, with four receptions for 89 yards, including touchdown catches of seven and 16 yards, and a 35-yard reception that set up the second Canyon score.
Burbank (3-6, 0-3) struck first on Jason Jonas’ one-yard run six minutes into the game.
The Cowboys took the lead 8 minutes 26 seconds into the second quarter on a seven-yard pass from Palmer to Fitzgerald.
