The Wrong Bird

Re: “Nature’s Open House” (Oct. 30): (You) did an excellent job of reporting on the open house at Audubon’s Starr Ranch. However, (you) did err in describing the birds in the sanctuary. Any birder knows there are no blue jays in the sanctuary as reported. True, there are jays there that are blue, but blue jays they’re not. They are scrub jays. The bird called the blue jay is an eastern bird not found west of the Rocky Mountains.
