A 19-year-old man died Monday morning after losing control of his vehicle on the Santa Ana Freeway and swerving into a truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
John Michael McGlone of Laguna Hills was pronounced dead at the scene after the left side of his car “hit the front wheel of a big-rig truck and went under the rear trailer,” CHP Officer Michael Lundquist said.
The rear wheels of the truck “went over the top of the car,” crushing the left side, he said.
The man was heading south on the freeway north of Lake Forest Drive at 9:45 a.m. when he apparently lost control, Lundquist said.
No other injuries were reported. The truck driver, who was in the inside lane going about 55 m.p.h., was not cited, Lundquist said.
Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department, said there was evidence that a fire had broken out after the collision, possibly due to a gasoline spill. But it was under control by the time the firefighters arrived, she said.
