OUTLOOK
With Mai, Dong and Bolden the only players with any varsity experience, Brodowski acknowledges this season might be a struggle for Bolsa Grande. But he’s hoping it won’t be as bad as last season. Unlike last year, though, the Matadors have some height with sophomore James at 6 feet and six others above 5-7. There’s also Mai, a shooting guard who averaged 8.2 points and is a three-year starter. Dong is also expected to help out at the guard position, where she is a two year starter. Brodowski is still cautious. As far as a silver lining, a few players coming up from the freshman (Petrie and Vito) and junior varsity teams (James, Tantardini and Fierro) might be factors. And there’s also the return of Duong, who sat out her junior season. But Brodowski is a realist; he thinks Rancho Alamitos and Garden Grove will battle for first, and that La Quinta and Santiago will contend for the final playoff berth.
