Pope Soaring to Top of Music Charts

LONDON — Pope John Paul II has a hit record on his hands.
The double CD has gone platinum in Europe and now a British recording company is hoping it will top the charts in England.
“We’re hoping for a miracle,” said a spokeswoman for the recording company Telstar. “We think it will be the Christmas number one.”
The Pope recites the rosary in Latin on one disc of the two-CD set while Irish priest Father Colm Kilcoyne recites his English version of a prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary on the other.
The Pope’s contribution was actually recorded 15 years ago but only recently released on CD.
Earlier this year Benedictine monks from Spain with their collection of 10th-Century chants, Canto Gregoriano, dominated the pop charts.
