Beyond GATT: With many Southern California businesses eagerly looking forward to their expected expanded world trade opportunities resulting from the U.S. Congress’ approval last week of the expanded General Agreement on Tariffs, a conference this week will take a more sobering look at the aftermath of the approval of the agreement. The three-day meeting beginning Friday at 9 a.m. at UCLA’s Griffin Commons Conference Center will explore the impact of the new GATT agreement on different trading blocs around the world and “the emerging threats to the world trading order.” California has more global trade than any other state.
