LOS ANGELES : DWP Warns of Con Artists Posing as Utility Workers
- Share via
Con artists have been posing as utility workers to burglarize homes, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power warned Friday.
The impostors, who have been working in pairs and targeting mostly elderly residents, identify themselves as employees of the DWP or another utility, said James Derry, the DWP’s customer service director.
They find a reason to draw the person outside to the meter while one of them remains inside to steal money or property, Derry said. DWP field employees carry photo identification cards and are generally in uniform.
