LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Sheriff Welcomes Report of Drop in Officer Shootings
- Share via
Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block says he welcomes a report that officer-involved shootings have declined in his department, saying deputies are “approaching suspects a little more cautiously than in the past.”
“We arrest a lot of people with guns, we confiscate a lot of guns, and a lot of these could have resulted in shootings,” Block said. “But because of training and skills, our deputies are able to resolve them with less violence than otherwise would have occurred.”
Referring to a three-year reform effort, Block said: “We are proceeding, I think, very aggressively and very objectively in instituting whatever appropriate changes are merited in our operations.”
The report commending the Sheriff’s Department was written by attorney Merrick J. Bobb at the request of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
