Frenchman Sets Out to Swim the Atlantic

PARIS — Risking shark attacks and deadly jellyfish, a French adventurer set out Friday from the Cape Verde islands to swim across the Atlantic Ocean.
Accompanied only by an unmanned raft loaded with supplies, Guy Delage, 42, says he expects to take up to three months, swimming 10 hours a day, to reach the West Indies.
Delage left the shore of the island Sao Vincente, off the western coast of Africa, delayed by one day because of bad weather, according to his Paris-based support team.
He plans to rest 10 minutes every two hours, and half a day each week, as he covers the 2,440-mile route. He will sleep under a tent aboard the 15-foot raft, which has its own guidance and propulsion system.
