A Shorter Move

I was heartened to hear of Assemblyman Richard L. Mountjoy’s sacrifice to ensure that Willie Brown does not get reelected as Speaker of the Assembly.
Rather than being sworn in as a state senator, he is going to stick around the Assembly and forfeit his Senate seat, leaving it vacant once again. This is good news for Orange County.
Assemblyman Ross Johnson (R-Placentia), who desperately wants to run for higher office, can carpetbag into Diamond Bar rather than carpetbagging to Newport Beach. It makes more sense because he’ll only have to move five miles to run in an empty Senate district as opposed to moving 20 miles into Orange County’s coastal district.
