BOYS’ SOCCER ROUNDUP : Hulgreen’s Goal Puts Mater Dei in Marina Title Game

Kris Hulgreen scored off a pass from Matt Thomas early in the second half to give Mater Dei a 1-0 victory over San Clemente Wednesday and move the Monarchs into the championship game of the Marina boys’ soccer tournament.
The Monarchs, who defeated Santa Barbara San Marcos, 2-1, earlier Wednesday, will face Clovis West in today’s final at 1:30 p.m.
In the other semifinal:
Clovis West 1, Fountain Valley 0--Jim Smith scored a first-half goal. Second-ranked Fountain Valley (9-2), which defeated Long Beach Wilson, 4-0, in the quarterfinals, will play San Clemente for third place today at 10:30 a.m. at Marina.
In the quarterfinals of the Orange tournament:
Saddleback 2, Edison 0--Juan Rojas and Oswaldo Vis each scored to lead Saddleback (5-2-1). Eddy Lopez posted the shutout for the Roadrunners, who play North Riverside in a 6:45 p.m. semifinal today at Chapman University.
Orange 2, La Habra 1--Victor Diaz’s goal proved the difference for Orange (5-4-2), which will face Santa Margarita, top-ranked in Orange County, in the semifinals today at 5 p.m. at Chapman.
Santa Margarita 1, Los Alamitos 0--Seth George scored in the second half to get Santa Margarita past fourth-ranked Los Alamitos. Ben Froehlich had six saves in the shutout.
In a consolation game:
Estancia 1, Trabuco Hills 0--Garrison Sagado scored a second-half goal to lead Estancia (4-2-2).
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Cypress 3, Magnolia 2--Brad Dunaway scored twice and Mike Gaitley added another goal to lead Cypress (9-2-2). Bryce Brunsting had three saves for Cypress.
