Full-Time Mothers
When a woman who is caring for other people’s children in a child-care center or an after-school program or as a foster parent is considered to be working and worth paying, why is not a woman who is taking care of her own children at home considered to be working and worth paying? The job description--child care and training--is the same.
The idea that full-time mothers are parasites who should be out in jobs which enhance economic production is a principle of communism and is not compatible with our traditional American family value of respect for the contributions of mothering and for the mother-child bond, a longstanding tradition even though we have been drifting away from it in the last 25-30 years. What great irony lies in seeing Newt Gingrich, staunch conservative that he is, embrace an anti-family tenet of communism!
