Colgate to Acquire Kolynos: The conglomerate said it will buy the South American toothpaste maker from American Home Products Corp. for $1.04 billion cash. New York-based Colgate, which makes Colgate and Ultrabrite toothpastes, already commands 54% of the South American oral care market. Kolynos’ products include toothpastes, toothbrushes, dental floss and mouth rinse. Madison, N.J.-based American Home, a leading maker of drugs and pain relievers such as Anacin and Advil, acquired American Cyanamid Co. last year for $9.7 billion.
