NEW YORK — The daughter of China’s paramount leader, Deng Xiaoping, says his health has deteriorated greatly in recent months and he can no longer stand or walk, a published report said today. In a New York Times interview, Xiao Rong said her father is at home at the family compound in Beijing. She denied reports by a Japanese newspaper this week that he had entered a hospital.
Deng’s health has been the focus of intense international speculation in recent months as China prepares a transition to a younger generation of leaders.
