PARIS — A Frenchman on a trouble-plagued solo swim across the Atlantic has beaten off a shark bent on biting off his leg, swim sponsors said Friday.
An unscathed Guy Delage reported by radio that he was swimming along feeling “down in the dumps” Thursday when he “felt a presence” in the water near him.
Turning his head, he saw the eight-foot shark, jaws open and poised to chomp down on his right leg.
Without time to grab his anti-shark pistol, Delage managed to fend off the shark by kicking it on the nose with his flipper, he said.
