N. Calif. Mudslide Damages Several Cars

SAN FRANCISCO — A rockyhillside in Larkspur weakened by aseries of rainstorms gave way Saturday, burying two cars and damaging five others.
No one was injured, Twin Cities police said.
The hillside was behind an apartment complex that sits on a former rock quarry site. City workers estimated that 400 to 1,000 cubic feet of mud slid into the building’s parking lot.
Saturday’s rain also caused brief closures on California 1, where officials worried that the roadway would collapse or be blocked by landslides. The highway was open in the evening.
The National Weather Service forecast rain in Northern California through the weekend, though the heaviest downpour was expected to taper off by this afternoon. Rain is possible through Tuesday, but forecasters do not expect the kind of downpours that flooded the area earlier this month.
