PREP ROUNDUP : Newport Harbor Wins in Overtime, 60-52

Mandy Clayton scored 14 points to lead the sixth-ranked Newport Harbor girls’ basketball team to a 60-52 overtime victory over University Saturday at University High.
Raschelle Lawrence sank a three-pointer with six seconds left in regulation to force the overtime, but Newport Harbor scored the first six points of the extra period to ensure the victory.
Jenny Jennings’ three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter put the Sailors ahead, 50-47, before Lawrence answered for University. Newport Harbor outscored the Trojans, 10-2, in overtime.
Newport Harbor improves to 15-3; University drops to 13-5.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Servite 75, Loyola 58--David Downs scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed six rebounds for visiting Servite (13-5). Brian Manning added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Friars.

In Sea View League girls’ soccer:
El Toro 2, Newport Harbor 1--Jen Staiti scored on a corner kick with a minute left to play to lead El Toro (9-6-3, 3-1).
Santa Margarita 2, Irvine 0--Erica DeVitis scored two goals in the second half as visiting Santa Margarita (15-4-1, 4-0), ranked second in the county, gained sole possession of first place in the Sea View League. No. 5 Irvine is 13-3-1, 4-1.

In Sunset League girls’ soccer:
Los Alamitos 3, Edison 2--Liz Willemse, Carrie Shinen and Brittany Savelkoul scored goals for host Los Alamitos (12-3-2, 2-1-1), ranked fifth. Samantha Craig and Melissa Bucknam scored for Edison (5-7-3, 2-2).

In Sea View League boys’ soccer:
El Toro 3, Newport Harbor 2--Wade Fraser scored two goals and Bobby Miske added another for host El Toro (5-9-2, 2-2-1). Alessio Smith and Dominic Frantantaro scored for Newport Harbor (13-6, 1-4).

At the San Clemente wrestling tournament:
Santa Ana fourth--The Saints were led by second-place finishes from Ignacio Bahema (114 pounds), Sadie Morales (121) and Brian Schwalm (162) at the 21-team tournament.
County individual champions were Mike Vandermark of Dana Hills (137 pounds), Paul Kalani of Fountain Valley (142), Adam Miller (147) and Aaron Greco (154) of San Clemente and Scott McConnell of Capistrano Valley (173). Greco was awarded most outstanding wrestler of the meet.

In the El Toro 8-Way:
Anaheim wins--Eight Anaheim wrestlers finished first in their weight classes as Anaheim finished 4-0 in the tournament. Leonard Ruiz, who was named upper-weight class MVP, had four pins for the Colonists and tied with El Toro’s Matt McCarthy at 154 pounds. McCarthy also had four pins.
