The sheriff’s bomb squad was called to a Thousand Oaks neighborhood on Monday after a mailman found a possible pipe bomb lying on the street. Bomb experts said the device was a hoax, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
The mailman discovered the device about 1 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Raindance Street. Recognizing that it could be a pipe bomb, he left it in place and called authorities.
The bomb team removed the device and transported it to their bunker, where it was rendered safe, authorities said.
East county detectives are investigating the incident.
