In 1994, Fountain Valley’s three-member sewer and storm-drain team cleaned 135 linear miles of sewer line, 1,200 drains and more than eight linear miles of channel and pipe.
The crew also removed 2,735 cubic yards of “foreign materials,” such as paper, plastic and vegetation from the storm drain and sewers. That’s enough material to fill two three-bedroom homes, officials said.
The California Water Pollution Control Assn. recently gave the city the Collection System of the Year award for Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The drain team includes members Pat Danahy, Bryan Bates and Keith Spaulding.
