Author to Read Poems About City at Library

The public library will play host to a reception today for author Kevin Hearle, who has written a book of poems about the city. On Wednesday, the library will open a four-day book sale fund-raiser, a spokeswoman said.

Hearle--a descendant of Eli Greenleaf, who became the city’s first doctor when he moved there in 1870--will present a book of his poems in the library’s history room at 1:30 p.m.

The book, “Each Thing We Know Is Changed Because We Know It and Other Poems,” focuses on life in the city and his family’s experiences, librarian Anne Harder said.

From 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, the Friends of the Library will hold a sale of used books. Only members of the Friends of the Library will be admitted at that time, but memberships will be available for as little as $2, event coordinator Jean Upton said.

The sale will continue Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be open to the public at that time. On Feb. 11, the sale will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., she said.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the library’s homework center, which provides tutoring for students after school, she said.
