In other Orange League games:
Magnolia 61, Western 58--Josh Reding scored 22 points, including two four-point plays, for host Magnolia (10-12, 2-5), which took a 25-17 halftime lead.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 60, El Dorado 47--The Centurions (18-4, 6-1) overcame a sluggish third-quarter start and outscored El Dorado, 14-0, in a five-minute span in the second half to take control.
The victory kept Cypress alone in first place. An El Dorado victory would have put the Hawks in a tie for first.
Chad Boberg scored 17 points and Derek Mitchell added 15 points--including 11 of 11 free throws--for Cypress, ranked eighth in Orange County.
El Dorado (16-7, 4-3) trailed by eight at halftime, but Dustin Miller and Dan Simonsen keyed a 9-0 run to help the Hawks take their first lead, 28-27, with 5:35 remaining in the third quarter.
El Dorado’s matchup zone confused Cypress, which relied on Boberg to remain within striking distance.
Robbie Sammons, who had 13 points, scored after an offensive rebound to give El Dorado its last lead, 37-36, with 1:11 remaining in the third.
Cypress reserve Matt Shelton then made one of his two three-pointers to start the Centurions’ decisive 14-0 run.
