Police in Oxnard raided eight homes early Saturday, arresting an 18-year-old on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and seizing several knives, a rifle, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
The 7 a.m. sweep by more than 50 officers came in response to a gang-related homicide Feb. 1 and two armed robberies on Nov. 14 and Feb. 1 in which gang members are suspects.
Officers from Oxnard and Port Hueneme were joined by authorities from the Ventura County Probation Department and the Ventura County district attorney’s office. They served five search warrants and searched the homes of three other youths on probation.
After being questioned at the Oxnard police station, Anthony Estrada was booked into County Jail late Saturday in connection with one of the robberies, said Sgt. Chuck Hookstra, who coordinated the operation.
Other items seized during the raids included pistol ammunition, a billy club and a homemade weapon known as a blackjack. The investigation into the shooting and the two robberies is continuing.
