Navistar International Corp. reported that its first-quarter earnings rose 44% on strong demand for its medium and heavy trucks, and moderate demand for its engines.
Net income for the three months ended Jan. 31 rose to $23 million, or 21 cents a share, up from $16 million, or 12 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.
Revenue rose 24%, to $1.42 billion from $1.14 billion a year earlier.
The Chicago-based manufacturer said it expects heavy-truck sales to rise 5% for fiscal 1994 and medium-truck sales to rise 18%.
