VENTURA : Man With Alleged Bomb Robs Bank

A Ventura bank was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money by a man claiming to have a bomb Friday afternoon, police reported.
The robber approached a First National Bank employee about 2 p.m. and asked to open a new account, Ventura police officers said. He then brought out a box and said it contained a bomb that could be detonated by his partner watching from a waiting vehicle.
The bandit handed the employee a plastic grocery bag and demanded that it be filled with cash. The new-accounts clerk complied, and the man fled the Telegraph Road bank on foot. No accomplice was spotted.
Police described the gray-haired robber as about 45 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. He wore a dark baseball cap, a burgundy and blue Windbreaker, and tan pants.
The bank robbery was the third in the city and sixth in the county this year, the FBI reported.
