Bob Randall; Dramatist, TV Writer

NEW YORK — Bob Randall, a prolific dramatist, novelist and television writer whose successes included the Broadway play “6 Rms Riv Vu” and the hit TV series “Kate and Allie,” is dead at the age of 57.

Randall died Feb. 11 at his home in New Milford, Conn., of the complications of AIDS, said Gary Pratt, his companion for 15 years.

Randall’s 1972 hit comedy “6 Rms Riv Vu” won a Drama Desk Award and, as a TV special, was nominated for an Emmy. He won a 1994 Emmy and a Humanitas award for his CBS-TV movie “David’s Mother.”

Randall was head writer and co-producer of “Kate and Allie,” the acclaimed television series that ran on CBS from 1984 to 1988 and also earned a Humanitas award.

His other works included the 1973 musical, “The Magic Show” and the 1975 novel “The Fan,” which won an Edgar mystery award and was made into a film starring Lauren Bacall.
