COLLEGE NOTES : Fullerton Baseball Picked for First

Cal State Fullerton has been picked to win the Big West Conference baseball title in a poll of conference coaches.

The Titans, who shared the 1994 title with Long Beach State and Nevada, received seven of eight first-place votes and 63 points in the poll. Long Beach State was second at 57 points.

Fullerton’s softball team was picked to finished third in the coaches poll. Nevada Las Vegas and Hawaii tied for first in the softball poll.

Cal State Fullerton announced Friday the signing of five men’s soccer players, including midfielder Alessio Smith of Newport Harbor High, to letters of intent.

Also signed were striker Benjamin Hooper of Diamond Bar High, defender Ruben Tavares of Cal Baptist College in Riverside and goalkeepers Mike Forensich from San Jose Bellarmine Prep and Prawit Namatowong of East Los Angeles College.
