Irvine High School athletic boosters are proud of pitching in to keep sports programs alive.
During recent school-board deliberations over impending budget cuts, Irvine High School Athletic Booster Club members pointed out that the only district money spent on athletics at the high school is $65,000 for coaching salaries.
Sports programs are primarily supported by fund raising, ticket sales and donations. During the past three years, Irvine High boosters have raised $74,200 to pay expenses ranging from an $8,000 paint job for the gymnasium to $20,000 for an air-conditioning system to cool the football weight room.
