Rain or Shine, Soccer Titles on Line

No matter what the weather forecast, the high school soccer season in the City and Southern sections ends today and Saturday with 12 championship games.
Section officials said the games will be played even if rain persists throughout the weekend.
The Southern Section will decide five divisional titles for boys and four for girls. Three games will be played today beginning at 4 p.m. and six Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.-- all at Cerritos Gahr High.
The three City Section title games--one for boys and two for girls--will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Los Angeles College. For the first time, the girls will have championship games in Division 4-A and 3-A.
In the girls’ 4-A, defending champion Van Nuys Grant plays Chatsworth at noon and in the 3-A, Hamilton plays Reseda Cleveland at 10 a.m. The boys’ tournament, marred by controversy after Dorsey and Franklin were eliminated for using ineligible players, features Garfield and Wilmington Banning in the 2 p.m. final.
