HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS : Panthers on Line for Victory 28

NEWBURY PARK — Kara McKeown’s alarm clock this week has been set to go off at 7:28 each morning.
Her basketball practices have been ending promptly at 4:28 in the afternoon.
And, should Newbury Park High win its 28th game of the season today, that schedule will vary only slightly during the upcoming week.
She will sleep until 7:29, and you can bet your lucky rabbit’s foot practice will end at precisely 4:29.
Newbury Park meets Bishop Montgomery today at 1:15 at Long Beach State’s Pyramid in the Southern Section Division III-AA championship game. The Panthers take into the game a 22-game winning streak and more superstitions than you could shake a four-leaf clover at.
Luck only goes so far, however. Newbury Park (27-1) also has an abundance of talent.
The Panthers have outscored three playoff opponents, 194-82, on their way to the first championship final in school history.
