ST. PETERSBURG : Burial for a Romanov
The remains of Russian Grand Duke Kiril Vladimirovich Romanov and his wife, Victoria Fyodorovna, will be buried today in the Romanov family vault in this city’s Peter and Paul Fortress.
Prince Kiril was a cousin of Russia’s last czar, Nicholas II, who was executed with his family in the Ural Mountains by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Kiril himself emigrated to Western Europe in 1917, died 19 years later and was buried along with his wife in Germany.
The current claimant to the Russian throne, 14-year-old Grigory Romanov, is expected to attend the reburial ceremony. The remains of Nicholas II and his family are also to be interred in the fortress after they are positively identified by genetic researchers.
