World IN BRIEF : AFGHANISTAN : Government Hits Militia Positions

Government forces launched a full-scale attack on positions newly occupied by the Taliban student militia in the southwest of the capital, Kabul, witnesses said. Forces loyal to President Burhanuddin Rabbani used helicopter gunships, jet fighters and heavy artillery as they moved into some of the areas seized earlier by the Taliban from the opposition Shiite Muslim Hezb-i-Wahdat faction, the witnesses said. Radio Kabul, monitored in Pakistan, claimed dozens of people were killed or injured in the fighting.
