Hoop Dreams in Northridge

It began 10 years ago with one wooden backboard at a fund-raiser in Dallas. Since then, the “Hoop-It-Up” 3-on-3 basketball challenge has evolved into a national tour with 90 aluminum-and-steel “streetball” goals that travel in five 18-wheelers.
The challenge has the support of the NBA and NBC Sports; local co-sponsors include the L.A. Clippers and KCOP-TV.
For the fourth year “Hoop-It-Up” is coming to Los Angeles, and for the first time to the North Campus at Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordoff St., Northridge.
The teams of local residents are already set for the 3-on-3 tournament play, but plenty of activities are planned for spectators, including shooting and slam-dunk contests, chances to win Clippers tickets and an appearance by some of the Clippers on Sunday.
Play runs Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., on courts set up around the parking lot near the football stadium. The event benefits sports programs at Cal State Northridge, and Chatsworth and Sylmar high schools. Free admission; parking is $2. Information: (310) 829-5226.
