Settlement Puts Snoring Case to Rest

DAVIS, Calif. — A woman who sued City Hall after getting hauled into court for snoring too loudly has settled her lawsuit for $13,500.
“I’m happy that we settled out of court. But as far as this being truly over, it will never be truly over until the city stops doing stupid things,” 31-year-old Sari Zayed said.
A noise enforcement officer had issued Zayed a $50 citation in 1994 at 1:30 a.m. after her neighbor Chris Doherty complained that her snoring kept him awake at nights. Doherty and Zayed lived in homes with a common wall.
The citation eventually was dismissed, but Zayed sued for $24,500, complaining of stress, lost wages and other losses. The lawsuit was settled last week.
